Bioluminescence and Creatures of The Deep

Dive deep into the inky blackness of the Earth's oceans you may be lucky enough to encounter The Dana octopus squid. The odds of a sighting is increased due to it's increased due to it's luminous organs called Photophores.

These photophores are not exclusive to squids either. In the twilight zone of the ocean, where sunlight fades into blackness,  bioluminescence reigns supreme.

In the realm of fantasy, the use of bioluminescence can add a layer of intrigue to your narratives. Consider a glowing monster appendage flaring around in the melee and darkness, it's radiant form casting long, dancing shadows that confuse and obfuscate the shadows in the darkness.

It also stands to reason that in subterranean environments that persist for ages, filled with danger, the evolutionary pressures might inspire adaptations that shed a little light.

Terrifying creatures can also be dazzling and beautiful, to a distracting degree, so give me a Will save to figure out which shadow is a tentacle!
